The location and attractions nearby

Whitby is an ancient and picturesque fishing town on the coast of North Yorkshire just a short walk or drive away, where the harbour buzzes with fishing boats and pleasure craftSteeped in history, it was not only home to Captain James Cook, but also the inspirational setting for Bram Stokerís Dracula.

The wide sandy beach below the town's west cliff extends to almost a mile in length. It makes a lovely walk off season, or a great bucket and spade destination for families during the summer.

Cricket Cottage is also conveniently located close to the other coastal villages of Robin Hoods Bay, Staithes and Runswick Bay. There are several outstanding walks virtually on the doorstep including the old railway line between Whitby and Scarborough and the planned Esk Valley footpath which will link the site itself to the centre of Whitby providing a delightful alternative way of reaching the town.

The North Yorkshire Moors are within easy reach and have been a National Park for the last 50 years with over 2000km of paths and tracks. The North Yorkshire Moors Railway travels the 18 miles from Grosmont to Pickering with a station in Goathland more famously know as Aidensfield in the TV series Heartbeat.

Flamingo Land Park and Zoo is close by and children will love this theme park, situated between Malton and Pickering. It combines roller coasters, water rides with a zoo and animal farm.
